Scripture About God's Faithfulness Worth Memorizing

Faithfulness is the attribute you need most at the exact moment you are least able to go looking for it. Which is the argument for having a few of these already in you.

Psalm 118:24 belongs on any list like this one. This is the day that the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. It is short enough to learn in a morning and wide enough to fit almost any day you wake into. Ten verses follow, all short enough to learn in a week.

For the Mornings After a Hard Night

1. Lamentations 3:22-23. It is because of the LORD's loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his mercies don't fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

This one is written from the ruins of a burned city, which is worth knowing when you say it. It was not composed on a good day.

For When You Have Failed

2. 2 Timothy 2:13. If we are faithless, he remains faithful; for he can't deny himself.

3. Numbers 23:19. God is not a man, that he should lie, nor a son of man, that he should repent. Has he said, and he won't do it? Or has he spoken, and he won't make it good?

Both put the weight on his character rather than yours, which is exactly where it needs to be on the days you have nothing to offer.

For the Long Waiting

4. Hebrews 10:23. Let's hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering; for he who promised is faithful.

5. 1 Thessalonians 5:24. He who calls you is faithful, who will also do it.

Short enough to say under your breath in a waiting room, which is often where they get used.

For the Sheer Size of It

6. Psalm 36:5. Your loving kindness, LORD, is in the heavens. Your faithfulness reaches to the skies.

7. Psalm 119:90. Your faithfulness is to all generations. You have established the earth, and it remains.

8. Deuteronomy 7:9. Know therefore that the LORD your God himself is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness to a thousand generations with those who love him and keep his commandments.

For Temptation and for Singing

9. 1 Corinthians 10:13. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

10. Psalm 89:1. I will sing of the loving kindness of the LORD forever. With my mouth, I will make known your faithfulness to all generations.
